10 Things.

Time Magazine today posted the 10 Things You Can Like About $4 Gasoline. Considering how much I hate $4 gasoline...

...I'll admit I was quite curious.

Here they are:

1. Globalized Jobs Return Home.
High gas means less trips (and opportunity seeking) across seas.

2. Sprawl Stalls
People are moving closer to their jobs.

3. Four Day Workweeks.
Working 8am-6pm...Monday-Thursday is not so bad anymore.

4. Less Pollution.

5. More Frugality.
No one is wasting money these days.

6. Fewer Traffic Deaths.

7. Cheaper Insurance.
Less driving...less drama.

8. Less Traffic.

9. More Cops On The Beat.
Time to learn how to chase crime...on foot.

10. Less Obesity.
Walking now is no longer a chore.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Thought the list was quite interesting. Especially as a church leader.
There are so many ways to look at this list from that perspective.

Give it a try this holiday weekend...will share notes next week.

Happy July 4th to you!

Closing.

Discovered today that Starbucks is closing a total of 600 stores nationwide. Considering that these closings will affect nearly 12,000 employees and force the internationally known coffee company to dish out an estimated 8 million dollars in severance pay...

...it is an unprecedented move.

Kinda makes me wonder if it is better to grow slow and maintain your growth, than to grow fast and drop any possible losses later.

It's sad - but today's economy may indeed cause some (grow fast) churches to have to make similar decisions soon.

One thing is for sure: Pace is everything.

Halftime.

Today is June 30th.
The last day of the first half of this year.

Tomorrow (July 1st) is the first day of the second half of this year.

Wonder how many church leaders are taking time out today
to reflect and plan accordingly. Halftime is extremely important.

Mr. Potato Head Ministry.

Asked Pastor Steven Furtick (from Elevation Church) if I could post a recent blog entry he did about his first few years of ministry on Streaming Faith today. Great post. Love the analogy.
